Questions about resets
Did Codex just reset usage?
The latest recorded reset is shown above with its UTC timestamp and original announcement. Your personal allowance can differ; check your account’s usage display.
What is a full reset in Codex?
A full or global reset refreshes the allowance described in an announcement for eligible users. A banked reset is a separate credit that may be redeemed later under its own terms.
How to get more Codex resets?
Follow official announcements and check your account for eligible banked resets. The beg button is a community counter; it does not change your account limits or create a reset credit.
When is the next Codex reset?
There is no guaranteed public reset schedule. The historical average describes past intervals, not a promise about the next event. Use your account’s renewal time for personal limits.

Because we are beyond happy to have Astra rolled out today ahead of schedule and you have been super patient with us (not really, but it’s ok!)… we will do the full banked reset today too for all Plus, Pro and Business users. Lands end of day. Happy Astra day and enjoy a phenomenal weekend. PS: If you create the account or upgrade before 8pm PT you will get it too. Still time!
View on X →We will give one banked reset for every day you don't have access to Astra on your paid ChatGPT plan, starting today. Team is moving mountains to give access as fast as we can. First one will land in ~ 3 hours. There is still time to create your account if you don't have one.
View on X →What I wanted to say yesterday is that we hit 25M active users and to celebrate we have now reset usage for all paid subscriptions for ChatGPT Work and Codex. See you see for more news from The Reset Company. https://t.co/7Yc5znAJIc
View on X →We are reseting usage for all paid users of Codex and ChatGPT Work. Please continue reading for an update on Codex usage limits. The team has been working around the clock, going through thousands of reports and shipping fixes. Depending on how you use Codex, you should see your usage go between 10% and 50% further than before. We really went with a fine comb, with many uncovered small things being longstanding and here is what we found and fixed: - Compaction. We were keeping old images during compaction, sometimes making the context large enough to trigger compaction again. After the fix, usage dropped around 10% for users making heavy use of images. Fixed. - Memory. Background memory workers could inherit Stop hooks and keep running when the hook wouldn’t let them finish. This affected fewer than 1% of users, with the long tail being pretty bad and we saw one example thread check whether it could stop 15,000 times. Fixed. - Goals. In some cases, a set /goal could finish and then keep going past the intended stop condition, or the model would keep retrying broken tools without stopping. We saw examples consume anywhere from 15% to 70% of a weekly allowance. Fixed. - Automations. Some custom schedules could run more frequently than configured. Fixed. - Subagents. Smaller models (e.g. Luna) sometimes picked more capable helpers without being explicitly asked. The same was true where the orchestrating model not running in /fast mode could request sub-agents to run /fast. Fixed. - Computer History. The older implementation could lead to repeatedly summarizing overlapping activity. For some cases we saw it consume up to one fifth of the weekly usage per week. Fixed. - Rolling task summaries. Ordinary turns were triggering extra background requests. These added about 1% to token usage. Small each time, but it adds up. We have disabled this. - MCP. Some tool results could be encoded twice. We also found tool instructions getting cut off and fetched again. Fixed. We’ve also made architectural changes to prevent these from regressing and our teams will get paged if it happens regardless. We are also working on showing you directly in the app where your usage goes so you don’t have to guess. Goes without saying that we’re resetting usage limits and I hope you enjoy a very nice Saturday!
View on X →Never slept better and feeling reseted. Brand new me and brand new usage for all ChatGPT Work and Codex users. Regaining my youth one button press at a time. Happy Thursday
View on X →Good Sunday. Reset has been propagated to accounts and we landed some fixes to usage for things mentioned yesterday as issues we found. You should feel a positive difference. More to come tomorrow and will keep communicating. https://t.co/6mgUetJnhg
View on X →It's me again. I come bearing great news. First of all, we have hit 20M active users for Codex some time this week. Second of all, this is cause for celebration and during the day we will credit every Codex and ChatGPT Work user with a BANKED reset that you can use at your own leisure. And we will have some other good news later too! Now, on usage limits draining faster, while we're not seeing anything abnormal, we do take it incredibly seriously and there is an ongoing investigation. I will share if we do find anything and my below post is really a clarification on a specific pattern that we did see that I wanted to call out. Go do something amazing today.
View on X →Old news actually from a bunch of days ago, but crossed that 15M. Enjoy a nice reset everyone. Landing in the next hour or so, go /fast.
View on X →That's right, GPT-5.6 Sol is awesome and can be used pretty much anywhere, including in the CC harness. To celebrate this, together with the fact that I'm not going anywhere... I have reset usage limits for all paid users of ChatGPT Work and Codex. Have fun out there! https://t.co/2rtjtOxFt0
View on X →To celebrate a week of efficiency and let you run 100'000 Luna threads this weekend... that's right... wait for it... I have reset usage limits for Codex and ChatGPT Work. Enjoy.
View on X →Hello people of Sol! I've reset usage limits for all ChatGPT Work and Codex users. Together with that, a quick update on GPT-5.6 Sol usage limits. Over the past few weeks, many of you have told us that Sol was using your Codex limits faster than expected. To be clear, we have not reduced usage on any subscription plans. We’ve been digging into what was happening and have landed several improvements. As a result, we expect your usage to last around 18% longer during typical use of Sol. Some of you should already see significantly larger improvements from today. Tomorrow, we’ll also restore the five-hour limit that we temporarily paused while investigating. Here’s what we found: - GPT-5.6 Sol is much more willing to work for longer, make additional tool calls, and coordinate complex workflows across tools and subagents. That makes it better at solving hard problems, but some tasks were using far more than we intended. - Sol also works harder at the same reasoning effort than previous models. High on Sol can use more tokens than High did on GPT-5.5. - Programmatic tool calling, also referred to as code mode, gives Sol much more flexibility to run tool calls in parallel or continue working while waiting. But it also led to more responses per turn, more cached input tokens, and higher usage than expected. - This was particularly noticeable when Sol was waiting for tool calls to finish or running many web searches. We’ve improved how we handle both cases and are continuing to make code mode more efficient. - The impact was also very uneven. The median user actually found Sol quite token efficient, while some power users working on harder tasks saw their usage drain much faster. We were very focused on average and median usage before launch and missed some cases where the long tail could use significantly more usage. Sol is a significant step forward in what Codex can do, but capability and efficiency do not always improve at the same pace, and some issues only become clear once people are using the model at real-world scale. We should have recognized this sooner and been more upfront about it. You keep pushing the frontier and we’ll keep improving efficiency and sharing updates as we go.
View on X →Back at the laptop. The usage limits have been reset for all paid users of Codex and ChatGPT Work. Weeeeeeeee. It's a good day! https://t.co/Li7De9EDHz
View on X →We have reset usage limits for all Codex and ChatGPT Work users. Last night around 2am to 4am we suffered an almost global outage. All well and recovered, but you know what comes next. We learn. We reset. Enjoy. https://t.co/rAPzefTyaa
View on X →10M! New day, new usage reset for paid users of Codex and ChatGPT Work. Lands in the next hour. Enjoy. https://t.co/VUJ4S3vKDG
View on X →Oops... I did it again. Enjoy reset usage limits for all paid users for Codex and ChatGPT Work. Super grateful for an incredible team who is iterating at lightspeed and keeping the infra up as we scale faster than ever. Enjoy the weekend! https://t.co/WIuS07doKA https://t.co/3NwNqHG7TV
View on X →Another reset for our Codex and ChatGPT Work users. Actually hit 9M active users way earlier today, but then got distracted by the approximately millions of things the team is doing to keep the systems up and reliable. Should have that sweet 100% weekly usage limit back in a few minutes. Go be your productive self and close twitter. Shoo!
View on X →Hello. We have reached 8M active users across Codex and ChatGPT Work. We are once again resetting the usage limits for all. And we continue to not have the 5h rate limit as well, allowing everyone to explore the boundaries of GPT-5.6 Sol and discover how ambitious you can be. See you tomorrow for more updates on our growth!
View on X →Thank you to the 7M active users who are now using Codex and ChatGPT Work. We have added a banked reset to everyone's account to celebrate the milestone. You can apply the reset in the desktop app or on web and it will replenish the weekly usage for you. Have fun out there.
View on X →Added a banked reset to 500k users of ChatGPT Work and Codex. What’s been happening: - Just released the ability to use a banked reset from web and mobile. Before today you could only do it in the desktop app - Had an issue where less than 10% of users who used a banked reset and it didn’t actually reset. This was during a 2 hour window. - It was hard to find all the exact users where it didn’t apply, so instead granted a banked reset to everyone who pressed the reset button in that 2 hour window. This also gives us the opportunity to validate the new infra ahead of tomorrow Tomorrow we will celebrate our 7M active users milestone and grant the first banked reset across all of our ChatGPT Work and Codex users. We will also release a bunch of updates to the desktop app, addressing a ton of your feedback. Talk soon
View on X →Introducing... another usage limit reset for all our ChatGPT Work and Codex users. Should land over next 30 minutes. Hope you have an awesome weekend. Thank you for pushing our systems to the absolute limit, we have never seen traffic increase so quickly. Keep the feedback coming and we'll keep shipping.
View on X →Hello beautiful people! We have reset usage limits across Codex and ChatGPT Work. And another one will come later in the day. Rejoice. Now that I have your attention, a quick update on ChatGPT Work, Codex and all the updates we shared yesterday. We’ve spent the last 24 hours reading feedback, looking at usage patterns, and talking with many of you. The short version is that there is a *lot* of excitement for GPT 5.6 Sol, ChatGPT Work on mobile & web, but also that we didn't get everything quite right. - We made it too easy to use the highest-compute settings without making the impact on usage limits sufficiently clear. - We reorganized the desktop app in one bold move, making familiar things like chats and projects harder to find. - Our launch framing was focused on ChatGPT Work and to some of our Codex fans it made it feel like Codex was going away over time. Absolutely not our intention, we love Codex and it is here to stay. - And we introduced regressions for some existing multi-agent workflows, alongside a collection of rough edges in plugins and other parts of the experience. We’re landing a first set of improvements today. We’re resetting usage twice so people can keep experimenting, changing defaults and the model picker so they don’t push people toward unnecessarily expensive settings, fixing several plugin submission issues, improving how we represent Codex in the product, and cleaning up some of the most immediate desktop problems. A larger set of improvements will land next week. We’re bringing chats and projects back into the sidebar in a more familiar and customizable way, making usage and reset timing much more visible, clarifying when to use ChatGPT Work and when to use Codex, and addressing the many other smaller pieces of great feedback we've had. The ambition behind this launch hasn’t changed. We think bringing ChatGPT and Codex together into a workspace where people and agents can collaborate is a very important step forward. But an ambitious direction doesn’t excuse avoidable confusion or regressions in the first version. Please keep the feedback coming. We’re moving quickly, and you should see the experience already get better with a few updates today; and substantially better again next week.
View on X →Enjoy a full reset of your usage limits for ChatGPT Work and Codex. Propagating in the next hour. @_rajanagarwal just joined to work on model research and push on coding capabilities. You can thank him for pressing the button today. https://t.co/vMMwKJibBI
View on X →Codex usage limits will be fully reset again in the next hour and we will credit one additional reset into your bank for your own usage over the next 24 hours. We investigated reports that Codex usage was being consumed faster than expected. There wasn't one central issue, but a few smaller problems compounded for some users. Here's what we found and changed: - Actual usage: Auto-review had become more proactive, another change was triggering more subagent work, and background suggestions could run twice or retry too frequently after failures. We reverted the changes and fixed suggestion scheduling, duplicate generation, and retry behavior. This should reduce unnecessary background token consumption while preserving the work users explicitly request. - Usage reporting: Auto-review was incorrectly appearing as GPT‑5.4 usage, and failed or rate-limited requests were still shown as turns. Auto-review now appears as its own category, and only successful requests count toward the turn graphs. Rate-limited requests were never charged, but they were being displayed incorrectly. - Immediate relief: We reset usage limits while rolling out the fixes, then shipped hotfixes across the CLI, desktop app, and usage backend. - What to expect: New usage data should be clearer and actual consumption should be lower. Historical charts may still show auto-review under GPT‑5.4 because older turn data was not relabeled. Features that intentionally perform more work; such as /goal, subagents, and higher reasoning levels will still naturally use more capacity. All fixes are now deployed, and we've added more detailed monitoring so we can detect background-usage regressions sooner. We'll continue watching the results closely. Thank you for building and doing all sorts of things with Codex.
View on X →As we are still investigating, I have reset everyone's Codex usage limits. This is a hard reset given some users had stacked up to three banked resets already that they can apply on their own schedule. Funnily enough, this week at OpenAI is called the RESET week, which is meant for folks to relax a bit. However it will be a different kind of RESET week. Enjoy.
View on X →We are giving all Codex users a usage reset on the house. Should be showing in your accounts in the next few hours. We have applied some mitigations, but our investigation hasn't shown users being impacted at large. We are continuing to monitor the situation. https://t.co/rLJrQdI1ks
View on X →Dearest gentle codexer. We did a sneaky double reset. Not only do you get a full reset on us. But you are also getting one into the reset bank to use at your own leisure. Enjoy https://t.co/eORoaKb3pL
View on X →Hi. Over the last 24 hours we had three separate small incidents that affected Codex reliability. Those are three too many and we are taking active steps for them to not reproduce. I have reset usage limits for Codex across all paid plans. May the tokens flow again.
View on X →The Codex usage limits have been reset for all paid ChatGPT subscriptions. You should be back to 100% weekly and 100% hourly limits. Let the tokens do incredible things today and have fun. https://t.co/e7iJcJ1iHy
View on X →Some of you noticed limits drained faster in Codex, we root caused it to an optimization that we rolled back that had an impact on cache hit rates when compacting across long running sessions. We fixed this and have now reset usage limits for all accounts. Enjoy the weekend. https://t.co/t1O8jCd4PB

View on X →Codex incident is mitigated, seeing recovery. Lasted about 10 mins, Codex itself helped with the remediation, but ultimately the insight came from a human this time. Apologies for the disruption and rate limit reset incoming. https://t.co/RiuRnNsH2u https://t.co/efVDAsHrBa
View on X →Hi! To celebrate its 1-year anniversary, I have allowed Codex to reset its own rate limits across all plans. Enjoy all the new features. https://t.co/xIGXQwMzpa
View on X →We did it, say hi to the $100 plan! It should be the sweet spot for a ton of you. It comes with a ton of codex usage. And yes we are resetting the limits again too as I mentioned yesterday. Let’s keep building! https://t.co/eX25QBuWqV
View on X →Three million people are now using Codex weekly - up from two million a little under a month ago. Incredible to see the growth. Thank you to all of you and to the ecosystem we’re part of. To celebrate, we’re resetting rate limits so you can keep building, and we’ll reset them every additional 1M users until we reach 10M, so we can keep celebrating along the way. Enjoy and thank you!
View on X →Our Codex dashboards are showing increased rate of users hitting rate limits and since we don't fully understand why I have made the cautious decision of resetting the usage limits for all plans. Enjoy. I also wanted to celebrate us finding a pocket of fraudulent accounts that we banned and have helped us regain some compute. The fight against abuse never stops, but it's important to mark the moment and make it a little shared victory.
View on X →Hello. We have reset Codex usage limits across all plans to let everyone experiment with the magnificent plugins we just launched, and because it had been a while! You can just build unlimited things with Codex. Have fun!
View on X →OK, Codex is back and stable and we should be good for a while. Reset button pressed, should see it in a bit https://t.co/cuVrFiFkep

View on X →We don’t have evidence of a widespread issue with codex usage being drained faster than it should but there are enough reports and we have reset rate limits for plus & pro subscriptions while we work towards wrapping up our investigation over the coming 1-3 days. https://t.co/yhr8K8pOjf
View on X →We caught an issue that was causing the 2X promotional increase in limits to not be applied to an estimated 9% of plus and pro users for Codex. We have now fixed this issue and are reseting the rate limit for all plus and pro users to compensate. Apologies and thank you for the bug reports over the last couple of days.
View on X →Codex is back up. We introduced an issue that caused requests to be blocked and rejected as high cyber risk. This was fixed in ~8 mins and we are now back online and fully operational. Team will reset rate limits, that’s been a while. Enjoy one on us.
View on X →For Codex users, to thank you all for the fun we've had over the last months, our first gift is that we have **reset rate limits and are lifting the usage limits to 2X the usual limits until the 1st of Jan**.
