When does the Codex rate limit reset?
Your Codex rate limit resets at the time shown in your account’s usage display. OpenAI describes usage over five-hour periods, and weekly limits may also apply; do not assume one universal weekly reset day. Separately, this archive records public resets and banked reset announcements: 59 events averaging 6.7 days apart. Those announcements and historical intervals do not replace your account’s own limits, eligibility rules, or renewal timestamps.
Five-hour periods and weekly limits
OpenAI’s current guidance describes included usage over five-hour periods. Weekly limits may also apply. Local messages and cloud chats share the plan’s allowance, so work in another supported surface can affect what remains.
A short window becoming available does not by itself establish that a weekly limit has also renewed. Check the reset time displayed for each applicable limit. The guidance does not establish a universal weekly reset day for all accounts, so this page does not assign one.

- Open your Codex account’s usage display.
- Check the available allowance and next renewal time for each limit shown.
- After a renewal or eligible reset, refresh that display to confirm the new state.
Your account provides the personal timestamp. This site’s UTC timeline measures public announcements and cannot inspect your usage.
Public resets use a separate timeline
